May 2001: L’Oiseau Bleu takes part in the European Conference on Rare Disorders in Copenhagen, Denmark

The conference took place on May 18-19, 2001, at The Copenhagen Business School, situated near the center of Copenhagen, Denmark. It was a joined initiative with EURORDIS, the European Organization for Rare Disorders.

People with rare disorders have special needs which require special initiatives and efforts. Throughout Europe awareness is growing that rare disorders present a particular challenge and a unique opportunity for European collaboration. As of today the issue is addressed in different ways throughout Europe.

The purpose of this conference was to investigate various models for offering access to information and organizing appropriate social and health services targeting rare disorders. The conference presented a range of different strategies and efforts from a number of European countries and outline the perspectives for information sharing and collaboration within Europe in the field of research, communication, and provision of social and health services for people with rare disorders.

The conference has provided an opportunity to learn about good examples of health communication in practice and awareness raising activities. The conference highlights internet based information sharing and experiences from specialized information centers. The conference has focused on efforts to ensure a comprehensive approach integrating public services and the networking and information activities organized by the numerous patient organizations for rare disorders.

We have met several organizations from England, Italy, Denmark, and Iceland and we will try to work with them very soon.

A European-oriented Web site

L’Oiseau Bleu is a young organization. However, we intend to act on a European level. The first step was obviously to build a Web site translated into the main European languages.

We had to get helped by volunteer translators. We published an ad on the Internet and we got many answers. Let all of them be warmly thanked for their generosity. Their names are listed in the Translators and Editors section on our Links page. As you can see, the French and English parts of this site are already in place, as well as German, Italian, Dutch, and Spanish. And Portuguese is on its way.

However, translators are very busy professionals. This is why we always need to increase our translators’ database. If you can help us, you are quite welcome. Please feel free to contact us.
We particularly need translators able to translate from French and/or English to the following languages:

  • German
  • Italian
  • Dutch
  • Portuguese

We took advantage of this opportunity and completely redesigned our Web site. Feel free to let us know your feelings, comments, and critiques by email to the organization . All your comments, suggestions, and critiques will be welcome.
